Via Juan Cole, my attention was redirected to a rather moving demonstration in Benghazi against the recent attack on the U.S. Consulate.
Also Ross Douthat, a conservative op ed writer for the New York Times, suggests that Realpolitik may have played a bigger role in these protests than some kind of uncontrollable rage.

Benghazi and Tunis are the best hopes for the Arab Spring…a true dedication to modern democracy. I am not ready to believe, as many conservatives do, that Arabs are only “capable” of despotism or religious extremism.
