It’s official: Ed Markey plans to run for John Kerry’s U.S. Senate seat if/when Kerry is confirmed as Secretary of State, according to the Boston Globe.
I enthusiastically support Markey. He’s knowledgeable about both the environment and technology, key issues for Massachusetts. And he has a lot of experience in Washington, which will also be key considering that Massachusetts will technically have the most junior delegation in the Senate if/when Kerry leaves.
Markey was also there for Elizabeth Warren pretty early, unlike some other local pols (such as Kerry himself), putting himself out there to help her win.
The only downside? I live in Markey’s district, so I’d lose him as my Congressman and then we’d have to deal with yet another political vacancy….
