I attended Senator Warren’s mock swearing-in re-enactment today at RCC. The oath was administered by her friend and former colleague Justice Elena Kagan. Sheriff Cabral, Governor Patrick, and Senator Kerry were among those who made remarks. Congressmen Markey, Capuano, and Lynch were present as were all the constitutional officers. At first I was disappointed that by the time I arrived people were being sent to the overflow room, but Senator Warren came there after the procedings and those of us who were there already were at the front of the receiving line, so I guess that was the consolation prize. Though technically not a partisan event there was a bit of a pep rally feel to it and plenty of references to the assumption that she won’t be junior senator for very long.
