I’m curious as to people’s thoughts on the twitter storm following NECN’s tweet “#Breaking: @MassGovernor announces he’s running for a third term.” This was tweeted by the account of New England Cable News which has 54,000 followers, according to the Herald article.
A good friend of mine was involved in the event where Governor Deval Patrick made a joke acknowledging a glowing introduction. My friend told me that the joke did not go over well. I was very amused by the Herald comment, “Patrick was speaking at the Performance Management Conference at the University of Massachusetts Boston — which would have been a highly unusual setting to announce a surprise third-term campaign announcement.” Just the place to be for those looking to pick up hot political news.
In the early days of this blog, and in the informal group, Mass Blog Left, we had discussions of our responsibilities and our roles as citizen journalists. I’d like to say that we took, and continue to take, that role seriously. Much has changed since 2005 when we first met as a group. Facebook, Twitter, all that has changed how we communicate. But this was not citizen journalists or a random person with a Twitter account. This was a legitimate news organization. But the nature of how we communicate is a key component of this incident.
This situation spawned some hilarious #necnbreakingnews tweets.
Thoughts?
Excitement than disappointment. He’d make a far better candidate than any of the rumored Democrats and it’d be a sure fire way to make sure his revenue vision gets implemented.
In fact, it was his picking Biden for VP that made me finally commit. If I had to chose between Gov Patrick and VP Biden, I would support Biden. Just my personal opinion.
He has only been asking about this for months.
