David Bernstein just came out with word that Collins apparently wants to de-fund planned parenthood. So I thought I’d see what else he supports, and who supports him.
Mass Resistance has never quite endorsed Collins, but they certainly rate him higher than most Democrats.
See their candidate guides from the 2010 primary and general elections, where he was rated as “pretty good”. It appears the only reason they didn’t endorse him was the presence of an extremely right wing Tea Party activist on the ballot; in any other election they probably would have. Only 6 Democrats statewide were rated as “pretty good” or “definitely vote for” in the general election.
Additionally, he is one of only 5 legislators statewide to have sponsored or co-sponsored all five of extreme anti-choice group Massachusetts Citizens For Life’s priority bills in the last legislative session, including laws making it harder for women to get abortions. See their questionnaire at: http://masscitizensforlife.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/MCFL-News-Nov.-Dec.-20121.pdf. MCFL consistently endorses Collins (see the Mass Resistance questionnaires above, the MCFL questionnaire, and MCFL’s recent blog post endorsing him for 2013. But he’s hiding MCFL’s support, not mentioning it on his campaign website.
I can’t find a phone number, but you can contact the Collins campaign by emailing info@votenickcollins.com, and ask him to disavow the support of these right-wing extremists. Otherwise, assume he has their support because he believes in the same things, and vote accordingly.
