So I casually toss out in a blog post that I’ll buy the first two rounds to talk politics. Big mistake. Whether lured by the prospect of free beer or costly political policy, BMGers promptly accepted my invitation. And I’m a man of my word. So, as promised, and with the exception noted below, I will buy the first two rounds (sorry EBIII, just two rounds) of liquid libation of your choice for any BMG poster/commenter who dares show up to disagree with me on solutions for the teen unemployment rate, the high cost of higher education, our broken bail and prison system, the K-12 education acheivement gap, infrastructure finance, campaign finance and ballot access reform, and any other topic of mutual interest. Here’s the exception: if anyone hosts a Democratic fundraiser in the same venue at the same date, I ain’t paying for drinks; Lord knows I got into enough trouble writing the occasional check to Martha and my other unopposed Democratic friends in the past, as I was frequently reminded during my GOP primary. When: Wednesday, August 28, 2013, 6-7:30 p.m. Where: Doyle’s, JP. I will enjoy meeting you minions of the monopoly in person.
Beer and Politics
Please share widely!
as either my tacit agreement with you nor as fear to debate the issue. My work schedule has me at work during the 6-7:30PM timeframe (not always actually working, I am a Democrat afterall (its just a joke)). Good luck and please do not feed any trolls. You know who you are!
and look forward to hanging with the good man from Norfolk’s Ninth. If anybody knows of an elegant way to bike there from Central Square, I’m all ears. Alternatively, I might take the Red to Orange, and “thumb it” home with another BMGer…
Hat’s off to Mr. Winslow. Harrumph!
Mass Ave across the Harvard Bridge and down to the Southwest Corridor Park where you can jump on a bike path that will take you directly across the street from Doyle’s.
If you want a more scenic — though slightly longer — route:
Take Brookline St across the BU Bridge and then Mountfort St to Park Dr. to get to the J’way. Once on the Jamaica Way you can enjoy the Emerald Necklace, following the J’way to the Arborway and then turning left onto Washington St. Doyle’s will be two or three blocks down on your right.
How can I not want to show up at Doyle’s for this event?
It’s in my calendar, and unless work gets in the way, I will be happy to shlep down to JP for this momentous event.
With the other Editors. This is a gracious and generous offer by Rep. Winslow and promises to be an excellent time for all. Here is a link to Doyle’s Cafe, for general reference. If all goes well, Rep. Winslow will announce his reregistration as a Democrat at the conclusion of the event, thus creating a Virtuous Circle o’ Progress. And even if that happy event does not occur immediately, a mighty work takes time, and this is a start.
How did a guy with a personality and a sense of humor survive in the Romney administration?
Thanks to you, Bob, I just fielded my second MSM call asking if it was true that I’m switching political parties. Now if we had an active Libertarian Party in MA, perhaps. I’m a member of the Party of Lincoln and proud of it. But happy to follow in Ronald Reagan’s footsteps and join with my Democratic cohorts (and some members of the 4th Estate, apparently, although a two beer limit might be a deal breaker for most members of the press corps) for a couple of cold ones.
The Republican Party is no longer the party of Lincoln – today, it is the party of racists, xenophobes and know-nothings. Lincoln is long forgotten.
and toast to what Bill Bulger liked to say to Bill Weld,
“Thanks for the use of your country.”
(you guys know I’m not going right? – but you never know, I could be one of those pasty face Irishmen at the bar – I just wanted to show how smart I ma by bringing up an old Bulger line AND letting you all know that Winslow’s kin came over on Mayflower.
I know. A lot these Yankee Republican wombats, they’re quirky yet likable, moneyed yet humbled, blah yet blah etc.
Not like these Tea Party/anti-intellectual Republicans.
No talkin to them.
History of these good guy Yankee bastard in the legislature. Recent history. Hundred years ago the rats in the State House basement were treated better than the Irish, Jewish, and a few Italian members.
Things changes after WWII.
Not a marriage but morew respect and great coalitions and friendships made.)
Anyway, where was I. Or yeah. Winslow a nut, but a smart nut and a fun nut. Good guy to have around even though he’s on the opposite team.
Sort of like (but not exactly like) Fugi from McHale’s Navy.
Long time ago I know, if you don’t know it then the hell with ya.
EBIII is my favorite blogger. And to be called a “nut” by EB is, well, awesome. And deeply ironic.
Even if Ernie is not able to buy the Rep. a beer I will. We’ll consider it a constructive purchase.
It’s my custom to go to Boston on Wednesday. I usually take the commuter rail in, but if I can make it work I will join all of you on August 28. Commuter rail is designed to get people into Boston in the AM and back to the ‘burbs in the PM. Not sureof the logistics but it could be an interesting evening.
Doyle’s is about a five minute walk from the Green Street stop on the Orange Line. It’s real easy to connect back with the commuter rail from the Orange Line at Back Bay Station.
anyone wanna go in on an eight ball with me?
Lemme know, my guy goes to Maine last week in august so don’t come lookin’ the night before.

And what will be done for those of us who DO agree with you, sirrah??
(EB3 is you favorite BMG’er??? But, but, you said…)
You can’t find one thing where you disagree with the good representative?
Although I do think his eyeglasses are odd…
I will be on vacation. I hope for a detailed post-mortem here on BMG!
