Even as our economy continues its slow recovery, workers across Massachusetts face some daunting challenges, including stagnant wages, growing inequality, and the declining value of the minimum wage.
In honor of Labor Day, the Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center is releasing a snapshot of the economic conditions confronting workers in Massachusetts, In 5 Charts: The State of Working Massachusetts on Labor Day. In addition to presenting updated information about job growth and inequality, the snapshot finds that wages continue to lag behind gains in productivity.
While the overall Massachusetts economy has grown more productive, workers continue to find that their wages don’t reflect these productivity gains.
In 5 Charts: The State of Working Massachusetts on Labor Day also includes an interactive tool that lets you see what the value of the minimum wage would be had it grown as fast as productivity, wages at the 90th percentile, or CEO pay.
