UPDATE: A hearty cheer for alert and tech-savvy BMGer patrick, who recommends that you log out, clear your browser’s cache, and log back in. That worked for me, and perhaps it will work for you too!
Hi all. We are aware that a number of users are presently unable to post comments to BMG. The problem is affecting us as well. What seems to have happened is that something in some recent browser updates has introduced an incompatibility with the code used to generate the commenting box on our WordPress platform. So, oddly, if you are using an outdated browser, you are more likely able to comment; those with the most recent versions of (at least) Firefox and Google Chrome may find themselves shut out of the discussion.
We are working on it, and we hope to have this problem resolved very soon. Thanks for your patience.
I logged out and then cleared the cookies and cache. Then logged back in.
That worked for me too! Bravo.
Is this thing on?
Your comment did not take.
Whine, moan…
For months now, BMG has fended off my posting diaries. Even though I have a couple of WP blogs that work fine, I find that BMG will let me go into HTML, do some stuff, then kind of freeze. That’s true whether I’m in Chrome, IE or Firefox. I can’t change anything or even see the HTML version. I’ve posted a lot less as a result, which I’m sure concerns me much more than anyone else. /humilityoff
David and Charley will tell you that BMG is optimized for Opera.
I haven’t tried Safari yet, but with three browsers far more widespread than Opera, I think I gave it a fair shot. The WordPress install should be browser independent. As other WP blogs, including a couple of my own, work fine, I wonder whether their editing settings are flaky.
Regardless, I just post less here.
This inspired me to check wordpress.org again. I see that problems like mine are pretty common. There are several fixes but the WP folk tend to find that plug-ins and add-ons often interfere with the HTML/Visual display and switch.
I don’t expect the guys to deactivate theirs, then test on various browsers and reactive one at a time. Nor am I inclined to add yet another browser.
As my favorite Lenny Bruce quote put it, “There is only what is. What should be is a dirty lie.”
kbusch’s reference to “Opera” is a droll play on what Charley and I actually do for a living. I’ve never used the actual browser called Opera – I use Google Chrome and Firefox, both of which seem to work fine. If you could take a couple of screenshots of the problems you run into and send them along to us, that might help us figure out what’s going on.
nt
but I do kind of like Opera and I’ve used from time to time as the main browser on some of my machines.
There are Scandinavian countries where it is widely used.

in case anyone hadn’t been convinced to try it yet.
