At our Drinking Liberally group the other night I thought that I would have some fun and do a straw poll. Since it is early and to make it interesting, I generally gave everyone two votes.
We had some fun and it triggered some interesting discussions. So I figured that I would try the same thing on-line here. To keep it simple, I’ll just ask people to post your responses and comments here. I’ll cross post to my facebook page and take answers by e-mail for those who would prefer to vote off-line.
Here are the rules. You get two votes for each question. (Two exceptions show below.) You can use two votes for the same candidate or vote for two different candidates.
Governor: Joe Avellone, Don Berwick, Martha Coakley, Steve Grossman and Juliette Kayyem.
Lieutenant Governor: Steve Kerrigan and Mike Lake.
Different rule: You can vote for one candidate twice OR vote for one candidate and someone you would like to see run.
Attorney General: Maura Healey, Hank Naughton and Warren Tolman.
Treasurer: Tom Conroy, Barry Finegold, Deb Goldberg.
Democrat for U. S. President.
Republican for U. S. President. Vote for who would be the most entertaining.
What should be the time limit on candidate presentations at the Democratic State Convention: VOTE FOR ONE ONLY:
Fifteen minutes.
Ten minutes.
Fifteen minutes for governor; ten minutes for other candidates.
TALLIES 9:10 PM 11/12/13 Since I only got a few more responses I decided to close the poll at 9:10 11/12/13. Steve Grossman is in the lead with 23 votes, with Don Berwick at 7, Juliette Kayyem at 6. Martha Coakley with 5 and Joe Avellone at 2. LG has Mike Lake at 12 and Steve Kerrigan at 8. AG is close with Maura Healey and Hank Naughton at 10 and Warren Tolman at 8. Deb Goldberg has the lead with 13 followed by Barry Finegold at 6 and Tom Conroy at 2. The 15 minute and 10 minute combination is in the lead.

Joe Avellone (2 votes) for Governor and Hank Naughton (2) votes for AG. I haven’t decided on the other positions. 15 minutes for the Governors speech at the State Convention and 10 minutes for the others candidates.

Don’t know enough to vote in all the categories anymore but among the individuals suggested, I think Steve Grossman would be a great candidate for Governor. Hillary Clinton for President and maybe the GOP can bring back Donald Trump to keep us amused.

Two for Grossman.
Steve would be able to do ten substantive things while the others wwould still looking for the restroom.
How many Steves to change a light bulb? Too late, it only took one, he did it and is on to other things.

– Grossman/Berwick Very open to alternatives
– Lake
– ?
– E. Warren, H. Clinton
– R. Perry Conservative, but can’t fake knowing what he’s doing.
-Ten minutes — they will need to get elected on the basis of soundbites, ads, and at best 5 minute interviews. They need to know how to close the deal.

10. Don Berwick,Kerrigan,Tolman Feingold
11. Time: 5 minutes! Stick to the Kate Donaghue “short and sweet” rule!
12. Grossman (2), Lake (2), Goldberg (2), Clinton (2), Republicans too scary to be entertaining, 10 minutes (too many candidates for Governor for 15 m)
13. Warren Tolman for Attorney General!
14. Berwick (2), Kerrigan (2), Healey (2) and Goldberg (2)
15. Martha, Mike Lake, Hank, deb, Hillary, Jeb, 5 mins each as we already know whom we’re voting for. No presentation would work as well.
