It didn’t take long for the media to take the Republican side after the Dem’s curtailed use of the filibuster. But does anyone think that leaving the filibuster in place now would prevent a (future) Republican majority from changing the rules to suit themselves?

All the more reason for us to have done this sooner. I suspect Reid has access to internals that are not showing a pretty picture. I do have hope that Grimes and Nunn can help expand the field of play-MT, WV, LA, AR and NC are not looking good. We may end up with a smaller majority or a minority, more reason to do this today.

… might be a good thing.
I’ve long thought that the filibuster has been the largest single enabler of a feckless party unity: it’s been a shield against attrition and party disloyalty by being a clear signpost. We’ve seen this time and again where a GOP Senator will vote to filibuster his/her own bill… placing party loyalty over their own legislation.
Absence will weakens both the majority and the minority party equally while strengthening individual senators, which is, IMHO, how it ought to be. For this reason I believe that the filibuster is dead for good and all.
