A very small earthquake centered just north of New Bedford gently shook the SouthCoast region at 10:52am today. I happened to be doing some work in our utility room here in Fairhaven, MA and felt the 1.9 magnitude quake give the floor a quick rumble. If I hadn’t been on the ground level standing on a concrete floor, I never would’ve felt a thing.
What’s weird is that I’d never experienced an earthquake in my first 33 years. Now I’ve felt three in the last three years – the 2010 DC area quake that woke me up in my then-home of Falls Church, VA & the 2011 Virginia quake that swayed the chandelier over my head while traveling in Vermont. Better to be a magnet for minor quakes than lightning strikes, am I right?

I remember it from when I was at umd. I definitely felt it then and new exactly what it was. They’re freaky. It was about the same on the Richter scale as this one, if memory serves.
