The problem was a gasket in the above-ground pipeline. One must wonder how many gallons would have been spilled had the pipeline been buried? They reported that about half of the spilt oil migrated off the site so the contamination is not limited to just land owned by the Hiland Crude LLC. Isn’t this exactly the concern that many people have with the Keystone XL Pipeline, that will be exposing fresh water systems and farm lands and wildlife to the spill-over areas?

A post like this usually scares me, thinking of the wildlife and critters being displaced or injured. Thankfully, all we need to do is remove so some soil and spread some loom and all better, thanks to the quick reaction of the oil company and their highly paid, income tax paying workers.
