National Democrats say Massachusetts Rep. John F. Tierney is not facing a Democratic primary challenge nearly as competitive as some in the party had feared.
In an automated poll released Thursday by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Tierney led veteran Seth Moulton 64 percent to 17 percent, with 20 percent undecided. The wide lead is largely a testament to Tierney’s familiarity with voters in Massachusetts’ 6th District, which he has represented for nine terms, and illustrates that Moulton remains unknown.

According to the poll, 83 percent of voters were familiar with Tierney, while just 15 percent had heard of Moulton. Of the voters familiar with Tierney, 59 percent viewed him favorably.

if the primary were next month.

…and I think this poll is great news. Seth Moulton has a very attractive biography and not much else really.
sabutai says
Wasn’t Marisa Defranco running in the Democratic Party in this district?
jasongwb says
But was not included in the poll. I would guess that if Moulton is in the high teens low twenties she has to be around zero percent.

Now we can look forward to her victimhood posts on FB about how the DCCC is conspiring against her.
sabutai says
She’s a former senatorial candidate and has some name recognition. I’d expect her to get at least 5% based on name recognition, being the only woman on the ballot, etc.
jasongwb says
about 5% but as the margin of error is 4.9% ……

I live in the district and I’m not voting for him. I didn’t vote for him the last time either. We can do so much better than this.

I live in the District and am proudly voting for John Tierney this November just as I did in November 2014. I don’t think there is anyone better and Seth Moulton offers nothing in comparison to Congressman Tierney.
jasongwb says
and I will be proudly voting for Tierney based on his progressive voting record and deep ties that he has to constituents in this district. At the end of the day our Congressman is either going to be Tisei or Tierney and that is a very easy choice for me to make.
blueinsaugus says
I will be voting for Tierney. Not because I have to, but because I want to. If I were a member of congress, my voting record would look like John Tierney’s. I also like that I see him at events around the district, even in non election years.
ryepower12 says
Okay. Your choices are Seth Moulton and Richard Tisei.
Which one’s better?
I’m not seeing one. That’s for sure.
Tierney has been very strong for our district, people are very familiar with the him and they keep sending him back to DC. He must be doing something right.

I was born, raised and have lived in the District for 63 years. I have been a Democratic activist for 53 years.
I have called John friend for 20 years. I live across the street from Richard Tisei.
My friends, believe me when I tell you, I know this District and I know the candidates, and none of them can hold a candle to John Tierney.
John is a true progressive champion who fights every day
for economic and social justice for all. I have been a gay rights activist for 30 years. John has be fighting with us from day one when we had few straight allies and it wasn’t easy to speak out. He’s no ‘Johnny come lately’ to all the liberal causes we believe in.
I marched with John two years ago in the first District Gay Pride Parade and I will march with him again this year.
I know John to be an honorable public servant and I call on all my friends in the progressive community to stand with him now.

If he is doing so well in the primary and Moulton’s line of attacks aren’t working it is a good sign for the general. I’d like to see current numbers on a general match-up with Tisei, but for now I am moving from skeptical to optimistic.
