Watching the Bruins here and not sure what to think. freakin” Marchand, what’s he on?
Anyway it’s Derby Day. The Kentucky Derby, the easiest and hardest race to make money on all year.
The winning formula for betting The Derby is similar to the first round of the NCAA basketball brackets. You need an upset or two to win the big money. The history of The Derby is similar.
The unusually high number of horses and the mile and a quarter distance provides enough room for a long shot to squeeze through for first or second place.
My strategy is to find a longshot or two and bet him alone and in exotics with some of the favorites.
First off let me say this: Boston Strong is not one of my picks. I have no use for this horse or its connections. This is a pari mutual sport. It’s all about the money. The betting. The handicapping. The owners changed the name of the horse recently to Boston Strong. For a race like this where 99% of the betting public only bets this race all year the emotional attachment affects the odds.
Uncool to announce some of the winnings will go to charity. Talk about screwing with the odds (Not to mention another masshole injecting himself into this tragedy. “Hey, look at me”)
Bottom line, because of this move Boston Strong does not give you value for your wager. It will be over bet. The hell with that.
Okay, my picks (Note : I loved Hoppertunity, 6-1, but he is now a scratch)
Longshots to bet
Candy Boy 20-1
Chitu 20 −1
I will bet each for Win, Place, and show and then do some exotics with them on a favorite or two.
Favorite to bet
hmmm, I don’t like these favorites. Not impressed with California Chrome.
I think I’m gonna bet Danza 10-1 in the exotics with Candy Boy and Chitu. I know I should have a horse in their with better odds but hey, I’m going with my gut.
Second thought, Better put a few bucks on Danza to win.
Now back to the Bruins.
