Tonight in a meeting of the Bay State Stonewall Democrats, BSSD voted handily to endorse Mike Lake for Lt. Governor.
Steve Kerrigan, who is openly gay, was expected by many to gain BSSD’s endorsement. We at Team Lake are thrilled and honored at BSSD’s confidence that Mike Lake is a reliable champion for LGBTQ people. Lake has already been endorsed by Katherine Patrick of the First Family, and Governor’s Councillor Eileen Duff, two of the most prominent LGBTQ figures in the Commonwealth. Mike has earned this confidence through a lifetime of progressive leadership on issues of personal freedom.

You might want to change the title, there’s no need for all caps. Congrats on the endorsement though.

Fred’s just an all-caps kind of guy. Always has been, always will be. Not meant to be shouting.

WHETHER INTENTIONAL OR NOT!

I can see one of his posts on the comment list and know exactly who wrote it in an instant. If all caps was good enough for the New York Times to announce Pearl Harbor, in my book it’s fine here.
The exclamation points added to the all caps are what make your comments really seem like shouting!
sabutai says
When I heard about a small group endorsing this guy over that guy for some office that I’m not sure we really need, my first thought was “Wow, this is just like Pearl Harbor”*

They also use all caps for stuff like “TECH FIRMS TAKE THE LEAD IN LOBBYING ON IMMIGRATION.”

Fred was shouting inside the first time he read the news, shouting when he told his friends and shouted when he told his online friends!
I find Fred’s enthusiasm infectious and always know I’m on the right side when I hear Fred’s friendly voice.
I LOVE FEELING THIS ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT MIKE LAKE! Clap along if you know what happiness is to you….

Just by a glance at the sidebar.

ALL CAPS just tells me to ignore the content.

Very interesting. According to their Twitter, Stonewall Dems also endorsed Steve Grossman for Governor and Deb Goldberg for Treasurer.

It’s seems crass to explicitly mention the nature Kerrigan’s sexuality (and score points off it), while not even mentioning Lake’s. What, does everyone know Lake is straight because of all the ladies he sleeps with? Or does everyone know he is asexual?
This reader is not well-versed on the sexual orientation of LG candidates (not realizing it was a relevant issue), and don’t want to make the wrong inference. Perhaps, Mr. Lake’s senior adviser who made this post could let us know just what the story is with Lake (as he did with Kerrigan)- so we can properly judge just how “dramatic” this endorsement is.
Christopher says
Kerrigan is openly gay.
spence says
I wasn’t sure cause only one of their orientations was made explicit and I don’t like to make assumptions about things like that.
kbusch says
It is a sign of political maturity if the LGBT movement has transcended simple identity politics.

To be fair, as a former member of the BSSD board, I note that we in Massachusetts are enormously blessed to have this cycle a broad field of gubernatorial, LG and AG candidates, all of whom are great on LGBT issues and I congratulate them all! I also note that Steve Kerrigan has the endorsement of the National LGBT organization,The Victory Fund, and while they only endorse LGBT candidates, they are quite selective in whom they choose to endorse.
