Arkansas has, by a court order (and not a federal court order/ a county judge from the great state of Arkansas), joined the states that allow for Marriage Equality. The curious quote in the article says:
The ruling comes nearly a week after state Attorney General Dustin McDaniel announced he personally supports gay marriage rights but that he will continue to defend the constitutional ban in court.
And the Attorney General is a Democrat. Go figure?!
Congrats to the citizens of Arkansas.

…we should probably wait for the state supreme court to weigh in. This judge probably only can dictate to that particular county and there are likely to be some combination of stays, appeals, etc.

as such, I would much prefer to raise a glass to each baby step on the way to our becoming a country in which Marriage Equality exists for everyone, not based on the arbitrary drawing of state boundaries. But maybe that is just me.

…wait until it cannot be reversed. (FYI if you are going to call drawing state boundaries arbitrary you are just trying to tempt me to go off on a tangential history lesson – just saying.)

I simply mean that if a couple went on a cross country trip, say from California to Maine, their marital status could fluctuate a dozen times depending on the route taken. When it comes down to, if there was an auto accident, depending on which hospital you end up at, may determine whether your spouse can even have visitation. In that way, arbitrary.
No, like I was born and raised in Nashua NH, and when NH was still part of Mass, Nashua was called Dunstable, and it was split off when NH became its own colony, but there are still places in Nashua that identify it historically as part of Dunstable.

in his decision:
It is worth reading the whole story at the Arkansas Times blog. While the forces who fight progress often win in the South, it is important to remember that the South is not monolithic, and there are many progressives there, working day in and day out to see that every human being has his or her rights protected.
