On July 14, 2015 the New Horizon Space Probe will make its closest approach to the Dwarf Planet Pluto. Unfortunately, back in the 1970’s and 1980’s when the Voyager probes were making their grand tour of the outer planets on their eventual trip into interstellar space, Pluto was not in the correct position to be visited be either of the Voyager probes. The New Horizon Space Probe will be the first man-made object to visit the Dwarf Planet, and hopefully other Kuiper Belt objects afterwards (as it will not be taking up orbit around Pluto).
As such the one year count down to its closest approach, begins today, with 1 year until the encounter.
Happy Bastille Day.
