Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts (PDM) has now formally given its organization endorsement to Don Berwick for Governor. (A majority of the PDM-supported slate of delegates had previously announced a group “endorsement” of Berwick prior to the Democratic state convention.)
In announcing the endorsement, PDM Chair Peter Enrich stated “I am proud that our members could come together in support of Don Berwick. Don has proven himself to be a bold progressive – supporting Medicare for all, single payer health care, and committing to big goals like ending hunger and homelessness – but he also has demonstrated the skills and experience to solve the state’s pressing problems.”
PDM board member Cathleen Cavell wrote in the endorsement press release “Even apart from his history of strong leadership, I found Don to be the most compelling and humanly connected of all the candidates. He has led an organization from nothing to global scale, saved tens of thousands of lives by improving our health care system, and helped President Obama fight to make health care a human right in this nation. He is uniquely equipped to use the Governor’s office to tackle persistent social and economic inequalities in our Commonwealth.”
PDM sustaining member John Lippitt added “Throughout his career, Don has never shied away from bold goals. If we as Democrats want to beat Charlie Baker this November, we need to nominate a candidate with a bold vision for the future of our Commonwealth. Don Berwick has put forward a bold vision, and I am enthusiastically supporting his candidacy.”
is his fierce commitment to stop Casino gambling from coming to our Commonwealth. Here is the video of the Town Hall Meeting on Casinos that Berwick hosted at Doyles on July 7.

This Town Hall Meeting was extremely eye-opening and informative. In addition to Berwick, two guests addressed the audience, Les Bernal, National Director of Stop Predatory Gambling, a Democrat and former Connecticut Congressman, Bob Steel, a Republican. Steel had driven 3 hours to stand with Don on the issue of stopping Casinos; to dispel the myths and share the devastating truth about the impact of Casinos in his state which he said is now in the deepest debt of it’s history. I highly recommend viewing this video and distributing it to friends and colleagues.
I thought he was a great spokesperson especially as someone whose community has experienced before/after casinos
comments are included in the youtube video. And yes I agree, if every citizen of our Commonwealth could see this video I am confident that the repeal effort would definitely be successful.
