To me, the greatest challenge in Massachusetts is income inequality-particularly the disparity between cities that have been able to benefit from the new technology driven global economy and the cities that haven’t. I have yet to hear anything from Steve Kerrigan during this race, and see him running an insider’s campaign instead of reaching out to the grassroots. While I respect his record on the fight for marriage equality, I cannot vote for a candidate who doesn’t even bother to ask for my vote in the first place. I also have respected Leland Cheung and interacted with him as a Cambridge resident, but feel that while his skill set and experiences are well suited to a technology driven powerhouse like Cambridge, they are not as well suited to connecting those Gateway cities to the rest of the state so they can enjoy the fruits of our economy as well.
Mike Lake is the only candidate discussing those issues. From his work in the non-profit sector, in urban policy as head of the Leading Cities initiative, and the endorsements he keeps getting from progressive leaders like Tito Jackson, Sonia Chang Diaz, and Mayors from Brockton to Melrose-Lake is demonstrating that he is the best candidate to continue the Tim Murray legacy of utilizing the Lieutenant Governor’s existing powers to act as a liaison between municipalities, the Corner Office, and the Legislature. I think he has the best experience to continue that legacy, as well as expand on it by bringing the non-profit community into the discussion as well.
