Cambridge City Councilor Leland Cheung got into the Lt Governor’s race later than most candidates. His campaign managed to score enough convention delegates to get him on the Democratic Primary ballot.
Now his end of July finance reports shows him out-fundraising both Steve Kerrigan (by $5,000) and Mike Lake by a whopping $150,000. Cheung’s strong fundraising shows momentum in a race that few are paying any attention to. Cheung still trails Kerrigan and Lake for cash on hand (Kerrigan with $100K more and Lake with about $30,000 more on hand).
As Tim Cahill showed us in the Treasurer’s Primary a few years ago, any candidate can emerge from a pack in a primary that doesn’t generate much attention.
On the grassroot level, Leland was just endorsed for LG by the Pioneer Valley Building Trades Council. No small win when you consider the PVBTC covers Springfield and Cheung is supporting repeal of the casino law!
Disclaimer – my union has endorsed and is supporting Leland Cheung as our next Lt. Governor.
