Actor and comedian Robin Williams has been reported dead.
Legendary actor and comedian Robin Williams died on Monday, a suspected suicide. He was 63.
“Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late,” said spokeswoman Mara Buxbaum. “This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”
Sad news.
Please share widely!
Williams always cited Jonathan Winters as a mentor and model, and suicide was something he struggled with as well, even institutionalized briefly.
That wonderful mania Williams had was the brilliant flashes of burning out.
Not just because Williams is a great comedian. He was in a tough battle, and I was rooting for him. My wishes for his family.
A bit of my youth was lost with the news. RIP Robin.
Especially since this is a MA blog, I think this would be an appropriate place to post my favorite scene from one of my favorite movies.
“Sorry guys, I gotta go see about a girl…”

His joint appearances with Winters, a hero of my dad’s as well, were must see tv , as were any appearances of his on a talk show. Those highs must have been met with a lot if lows. He struggled with substance abuse, fidelity, and finding steady work that fit his wide range.
He was excellent in Good Will Hunting, and he is the rare actor who could understate the Boston accent in a brilliant way. Seemed like he had finally settled down into his recent marriage, had successfully rehabilitated himself from alcohol and pills, and was often playing video games with his kids whom he doted on. A light extinguished, and I can’t help but be reminded of the ‘too soon’ end for another versatile actor, his Patch Adams co-star Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
So many images flit by, over so many years. Sitting in my living room as half of a young married couple, watching this ridiculously hilarious guy on “Happy Days”. Laughing at “Mork & Mindy” (while trying to hide the crush I had on Pam Dawber). Re-reading “The World According to Garp” because I enjoyed the character he played so much. On and on.
Sad news. Sad, sad news.
The bit where he talks about his character’s wife was ad-libbed and took everyone, including Damon, by surprise. The cameraman laughed so hard that you can actually see the camera moving up and down.

Rest in peace.
