Mueller is too busy with the NFL and private sector, Comey at the FBI might get picked, or former FBI director Louis Freeh. Prett Bhara has done a good job, but has also made a lot of enemies in Wall Street. But, expect to be disappointed if you were seeking a progressive. And no way Deval gets confirmed, nor do I think he wants this job (particularly if JimC is correct that he said no).
Republicans would find it very, very difficult to block his nomination — it would be painful.
Not worth it.
Plus, Patrick’s been at least teasing the possibility he’d run for President. If he took on AG, the GOP would get to make up all kinds of fake scandals ‘involving’ him that would get media attention in a 2020 primary.

It’s easier to run for VP without having a real job that could have a lot of messy work in the next year.
Note – I don’t think he’ll run for Prez, and while you don’t really run for VP, you can keep a higher profile with speaking and fundraising activity.
