Thought I’d share a letter I’ll be sending to some friends.
I am writing to ask you to vote for Rep. Paul Brodeur, Christopher Finn, and Sen. Jason Lewis. I am supporting them because they support the best policies for our community.
We have a lot to do in our cities and towns:
- We have new schools to be built and/or old schools to overhauled.
- Our roads need upgrades.
- Seniors need relief from the increasing costs of living.
- Our public safety resources need to be increased, especially to confront a frightening and increasing opiate addiction.
- Finally, and arguably, most importantly, we need more quality jobs.
I’m lucky enough to work with some tremendous non-profits. Each have made an impact in one of the areas mentioned above.
At each one there was a common theme: While as a non-profit we could make a difference, for our society to progress, it takes an active community. That’s what government is for. Government, simply put, is a vehicle for our community to improve itself as led by us.
Therefore to move my community forward, I want policies that will invest in us, I want the policies Paul, Chris, and Jason stand for.
For example, too many families become homeless and end up having a negative economic and societal impact on our community because they have to make the impossible choice between sick leave and work. In Massachusetts one million workers do NOT have access to paid sick leave. I am supporting Paul, Chris, and Jason because they support earned sick leave for everyone.
Another example, 88% of people older than the age of 20 and 55% of women would benefit from an increase in the minimum wage. Further 3 out of 5 small businesses support increasing the minimum wage because consumers would have more spending power. Finally 64 studies and a survey of 600 economists show support for the minimum wage and highlight that there is no effect on employment. I am supporting Paul, Chris, and Jason because they support an increase in the minimum wage.
These are just two examples, but there are many more. Consider universal healthcare, the environment, creating quality jobs, lowering student debt and on every single one of these issues, where evidence suggests we could be doing better, Paul, Chris, and Jason are on the right side of the issue.
Personally, I like their opponents (For the record I do not personally know Rep. Brodeur’s opponent, however I do know Chris’ & Jason’s). Both are fantastic people. I enjoy their company, I enjoy our debates, and our communities are very lucky to have them in it. But this is not a popularity contest, this is a contest of ideas, it is a contest of polices.
And on ideas and policies, Rep. Paul Brodeur, Chris Finn, and Sen. Jason Lewis should be elected.
Respectfully Yours,
Anthony Guardia
