Just thought I’d run down some of the items that were addressed tonight for the interest of BMGers:
- Secretary Galvin spoke about the calendar for electing the state, ward, and town committees in 2016. Papers are available in August and due in November. The presidential primary, which is also the ballot for these committees, will be March 1st. On a related note, the state party is requesting all DSC members and local committee chairs inform the party of their current contact info even if you think they already have it and DSC members are asked to let the party know when they first became DSC members. The staff is working on cleaning and updating their records.
- There are vacancies on the DSC for a woman from Sen. Rosenberg’s district and for both genders in the Cape & Islands district. If you are interested you must inform the party by May 21st and conferences for contested races will be held June 27th. There is also a vacancy for an at-large lesbian to be elected by the DSC at our meeting on August 4th. Nominations are from the floor so there is no prior deadline to express interest.
- A plan for selecting delegates to the 2016 national convention was approved with slightly higher targets for African-Americans and LGBTs than the original draft had. Meanwhile, the 2016 state convention will be held in Lowell on June 4th. This will be an issues and action agenda convention because there are no nominations needed and I for one am advocating buses to NH for those interested in canvassing.
- We approved keeping the Chair’s salary at $100K per annum and endorsed legislation to augment anti-transgender discrimination laws to include public accommodations.
Other DSC members should feel free to add points or thoughts in the comments.
