Hey everyone, here’s the results from the Unofficial BMG June Presidential Primary Straw Poll.
With 61% of the BMG vote, participants came out strongly for Bernie Sanders. It appears as if he’s quickly built some grassroots and netroots momentum on this site in a few short weeks.
Hillary Clinton came in second with 22% of the BMG vote, showing she still has a strong contingent of support, but perhaps its either weakening or that not enough Hillary supporters on BMG were motivated enough to vote.
Martin O’Malley had 7% of the vote, while Elizabeth Warren and Jim Webb had 1 vote each. I think we can safely say that BMG has moved past the efforts to draft Elizabeth Warren into the democratic presidential primary.
Of course, all of this is very early and everything should be taken with a grain of salt, but I think these numbers may surprise a few.
Thanks to those who participated.

Or is that only the case with editorial endorsements?

I don’t expect Sanders to win either the nomination or the MA primary, but it won’t be because of BMG.

To paraphrase Pauline Kael-I only know of one or two friends voting for Hillary. Most folks in my social network-including some populist social conservatives, libertarians, and folks that usually skip involvement are all excited about this campaign. I think he will definitely beat expectations in Iowa and NH and get a decent number of delegates. I also like the fact that everyone agrees he can’t win, and nobody seems to care. In many ways, Hillary’s inevitability frees me to vote purely my conscience in the primary.

an impressive win. And even though I proudly stand with Hillary, here and now, I pledge to support you should you be our nominee because you are an honorable man of principle.
Congratulations also, to your army of BMG admirers. They are all true patriots and you are fortunate to have earned their vote.
I look forward to a vigorous debate on the issues and a unified ticket after the primary leading us to victory in the general against the forces of darkness.
Strength and Honor,

To those who honestly think that Bernie can survive the Clinton and Media gauntlets and win the nomination, who would be a best pick for VP?
Trickle up says
The other guys all are, I think. But Bernie is trying to pull off something very different: to win gains while losing.

Bernie is in no way angling for veep. I believe the question was, IF Bernie managed to become the Democratic nominee, who would/should be his running mate?

Hillary Clinton? Team of Rivals?

It’s really a great idea if you think about it.

Julian Castro, former San Antonio Mayor and current HUD Secretary. At least, according to the horserace papers of record. Though campaigning so openly for it usually backfires.

Bernie held Clinton under 50% and got 41% of the vote at the Wisconsin Straw Poll over the weekend.

Interesting so few took part.

I’d look at clearing 40% in Iowa or New Hampshire has a high bar for Bernie, anything beyond that is icing on the cake as far as I’m concerned. If Hillary was smart she won’t even think about discussing VPs publicly until well after the nomination is over. It’s certainly something I’m uninterested in, unless we are talking about drafting Biden for a third term which would be wonderful.
This is the rarest of elections where we can have our cake and eat it too. I have actually started to look forward to it. A civil campaign where the candidates won’t attack each other, focus on critical policy differences that concern the direction of our party, and no candidate is too concerned about the silly season horse race questions the media focuses on. And complete chaos on our opponents side over who gets to drive the clown car off the cliff. Meanwhile our side is united for marriage equality, for a $15/hr minimum wage, for criminal justice reform, for campaign finance reform, and for a public option. Compare and contrast to 2004 where we were reluctant to take positions anywhere close to this, and thank Howard Dean for taking our party back. The Clintons are adopting his positions now! So I am just going to work as hard as I can for Bernie and sit back and watch what happens. We are getting a progressive nominee either way, something that was unthinkable just 12 years ago in our party.

Elizabeth Warren isn’t even in the race yet she STILL draws support … geez talk about popular.
I really can’t believe how popular she is. WOW
