When a September, rather than June, date for this year’s convention was first proposed one of the reasons given was that closer to the NH primary we might be able to lure some presidential candidates to swing through Springfield to address delegates on their way to the Granite State. Apparently the NH Democratic Party had the same idea and also moved their convention to September 19th. (Our two conventions have been known to coincide in June as well.) Therefore, the candidates themselves will understandably prioritize our northern neighbor, but a couple surrogates have been announced for Massachusetts. Former DNC Chair and VT Governor Howard Dean will be speaking on behalf of Hillary Clinton, and Boston City Councilor (and sometime BMGer) Matt O’Malley will be representing MD Governor Martin O’Malley (no relation I’m pretty sure). The party has invited all five declared candidates (and Biden may be in by then) to send surrogates so we may hear from others as well.

Would it have really been so hard for the MA Democratic Party to pay attention to what the NH one is doing so as not to coincide like this?

Eight years ago, when it was Obama vs. Clinton, Matt O’Malley was the most devoted and determined supporter of Hillary that I knew, is this representation based on actual support is is this like a debate club event where the positions are being determined by a random selection?
…but he is definitely with the Governor who shares his name (but not related). Matt will be hosting the Governor for a meet and greet in Boston on Sept. 3rd I believe.
BTW, welcome back – I feel like it’s been a while.
Sorry and Thanks.
Hope you are better.
