It’s my custom to celebrate my birthday with a birthday canvass. Since 2008, BMG has supported my birthday canvass tradition. The older I get the harder it is to get as many canvassers as my age. I started doing birthday canvasses when I turned 50 during the John Kerry Presidential campaign. I’ve stopped telling people how old I am; I’m just saying that I am trying to get 61 canvass shifts recruited by November 3. My reputation as an organizer is at stake!
Here is Jamie’s message:”I hope that you will join me and Kate Donaghue this Sunday, Oct. 18th in Brockton for a canvass for Rep. Mike Brady in his campaign to win a special election for the 2nd Plymouth and Bristol district, previously held by my great colleague, Senator Tom Kennedy. I will knocking doors for Mike, the most effective campaign activity in a legislative race. This is a special election, and the only legislative race in Massachusetts. It’s critical to elect another Democrat to the Senate, to maintain the progressive momentum that so many have worked so hard to establish this session under Senate President Rosenberg. Rep. Brady is up against a well-funded Republican opponent, Rep. Geoff Diehl, who is one of the most conservative legislators in the Massachusetts Legislature. I am not just supporting Mike Brady because he’s a Democrat, but also because he has been a strong voice in the Legislature on labor issues, investing in infrastructure and education, providing paid sick leave, and raising the minimum wage.”
State Senator Jamie Eldirdge is the official sponsor of the canvass. We have RSVPs from Senator Pat Jehlen and Rep. Dan Donahue. We’ll stop for appetizers at a local pub after we canvass. We always have fun.
