As a lifelong student of history and liberalism I have never been a particular admirer of conservative Winston Churchill. However, I came across a quote of his that made me laugh out loud in light of recent ad nauseam rants from the right :
” The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.” WINSTON CHURCHILL
Now if that just doesn’t say it all.

To retain him in war and dump him in peace. The 45′ election where they rejected their hero got them the National Health Service and one of the most competent Labour government in their history. My grandfather used that logic when campaigning for Adlai in 56′, to no avail.
