Eric Fehrnstrom wrote a column in today’s Globe defending Donald Trump.
More interesting than his defense of Trump itself is his claim that John Adams’s insults of Thomas Jefferson were a lot worse than anything Trump has called his opponents. According to the column, Adams called Jefferson, “a mean-spirited, low-lived fellow, the son of a half-breed squaw, sired by a Virginia mulatto father.”
That’s only a worse insult than “clown”, “loser”, “pathetic”, etc. if you think that being “the son of a half-breed squaw” or “sired by a Virginia mulatto father” is a bad thing. Apparently Mr. Fehrnstrom really doesn’t approve of interracial marriages.
