or it might say that, in this particular rock-paper-scissors game, government can rein in both business and unions but neither business nor unions can rein in government. So the biggest thing is government and hence it should that which we fear most. For example, we might be afraid of fascism appearing here in 20 years.
As the recent Patrick Administration seems to make clear, getting government to work well is a hard task that we don’t really seem to have solved. Florida and other states have demonstrated that privatization tends toward “pirate-ization”: one trades bad managers for bad regulators. The health connector debacle in Massachusetts demonstrates that being progressive does not guarantee good management either.
And then there’s big Bertha in Seattle with its recent 18 inch progress.
