I’m sure there will be plenty to talk about given the timing.

Really looking forward to discussing the three special house seat elections with everyone, oh, you meant that other election…

Is there something else on the ballot in some places?
Serious question, because I couldn’t find anything when I tried to search just in case.

Fitchburg, Brockton and Peabody elect new representatives that same day. It’s also the candidate enrollment deadline for the September primary for state rep races.
Christopher says
…state and local party committees, but UIP wouldn’t know anything about that, now would they:) (sorry, couldn’t resist!)
jconway says
Some of our voters don’t want to vote in the presidential primary and will be writing in heir names for the state committee. It’s unlikely any of them will get on, though our Holyoke councilor could get the 167 UIP voters in his city to vote for him and we’d be happy with that result. Great dry run campaign for him as he builds his base. Couldn’t resist either 😉
Christopher says
However, I think you only need five/ten write-in votes or something like that so if people are being written in, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t get on.

It’s been a very fun learning experience, the legislative seat research has basically been applying everything I’ve been talking about on this blog, but learning about election law and party structure has been a real education.
Peter Porcupine says
You need 3 voters registered in a party to organize a town committee (The Truro RTC was 3 for years). That is with a SC organization caucus.
You CAN have a slate of 35, with unlimited affiliates, but I have never heard of a minimum lower than 3.
That is how the other Recognized Parties do it.
Christopher says
…but I still think you need a few more votes than that to get those three elected on the ballot. You may be right about a SC-organized committee after the election.
Peter Porcupine says
If there is only 1 vote, and you get it….you win!
Christopher says
This document indicates that you do indeed need five votes, and of course more than other candidates. It’s not the only time that the number of write-ins must equal the number of sigs you would have needed in order to be considered a valid election. Didn’t the GOP not too long ago have a couple of candidates for AG run sticker campaigns for the nomination, but the winner would only be put on the November ballot if he got 10K votes, also the number of sigs needed to be put on the ballot for that race in the first place?

Drink one for me! If anyone would be interested in a New Bedford event, comment your support & I’d be happy to organize one.

I’m down! I’ve always liked your posts and have been meaning to do more outreach to the South Coast-it’s like Jurassic Park down there with all the DINOs. Email me if you’re interested in talking shop, but I’d be happy to go get drinks there with BMGers and keep myself on a neutral footing so I won’t upset anyone 😉

We postponed the kids’ birthday celebrations so I could be out campaigning yesterday.
