Progressive Democrats of Mass. will be hosting our spring issues forum next Saturday, March 19 (9-3:30 at Lasell College in Newton). We have assembled a terrific slate of presenters for what promises to be an exciting, action-oriented event.
We’ll be focusing primarily on two topics: climate change and education funding, with an “issues speed-dating” segment that will provide opportunities to address nine other topics. The focus throughout will be on what citizen activists can do to advance these vital progressive agendas.
More detail can be found on our website here.
We would like this event to serve as a resource not only for PDM but for everyone who is interested in advancing the progressive agenda in Massachusetts. We hope that many of you will join us for the forum. To help in our planning, it would be great if you could pre-register on our website, but, with or without pre-registration, everyone is welcome.
For the session on climate change, speakers will include Cathy Buckley (Mass. Sierra Club), Joel Wool (Clean Water Action and Mass. Power Forward), and Rep. Paul Mark.
For the session on education funding, speakers will include Sen. Sonia Chang-Diaz, Superintendent Mary Bourque (Chelsea), Colin Jones (Mass. Budget and Policy Center), Kevin Murray (Northeastern’s Program for Human Rights in the Global Economy), and Tracy Novick (Mass. Assoc. of School Committees).
During the “issues speed-dating segment,” you will have the opportunity to meet with experts on a selection of the following topics:
- Campaign Finance Reform
- Workers’ Rights issues (esp. the Fight for $15 and Paid Family Medical Leave)
- Affordable Housing
- Criminal Justice/Prison reform
- Electronic Privacy
- Transgender rights
- Carbon pricing
- Key upcoming legislative races
- Effective use of social media
We hope to see you at the forum.
Thanks.
