SOUTH HADLEY–The College Democrats of Massachusetts (CDM), the official collegiate arm of the Massachusetts Democratic Party, will hold its annual convention on Saturday, April 9th at Mount Holyoke College. This meeting of over one hundred active members is an opportunity for college Democrats from across the Commonwealth to come together to reflect on past success, hear from prominent Democratic leaders, plan progressive policy goals for the year ahead, and elect the Executive Board for CDM ‘16-’17.
“This Saturday’s convention is a time to come together, both as the College Democrats of today and the leaders of tomorrow,” said College Democrats of Massachusetts President James Cody. “The Women’s Caucus programming and lobbying skills workshop reflect an organization with a growing interest in taking our fights to the State House in support of crucial pieces of legislation, while the student protest movement panel will provide our members with a chance to engage with the important dialogue occurring on all of our campuses today.”
Students will hear from Senate President Stan Rosenberg (D-Amherst), Senator Mike Moore (D-Millbury), and Mike Murray from the Young Dems of MA. The speaker series begins at 1:45 pm, and will be open to press.
A panel organized by the CDM Women’s Caucus will feature Representative Tricia Farley-Bouvier (D-Pittsfield), Mass NOW Policy Director Nai Collymore-Henry, Commissioner Robert McCulloch-Dews of the Berkshire County Commission on Women, and Fitchburg Community Connections Coordinator Irene Hernandez.
Students will also be able to choose between two workshops, one on student protest movements and one on lobbying techniques, led by CDM leadership members. The panel and workshops will be closed press.
