Happy Birthday to Queen Elizabeth II. I realize that not everyone is as much of an Anglophile as I and a few others here are. But, just the same, Happy 90th Birthday.
Her mother lived to be 101 so maybe she has a few more years. Then again, I think her father died in his 50s which is why she was able to surpass Victoria’s longevity back in September.

I kind of assumed you would be the only other person, besides myself, to care. Thanks again.

I’ll be doing my celebrating on April 24th – the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising.

Her Majesty was not yet born and by the 20th century the royal family had little if any influence on policy. FWIW, my ancestry is both Welsh and Scottish. An collateral ancestor of mine holds the dubious distinction of being the last person to ever lose his head in the Tower of London. It was in the context of the Jacobite rising. However, that was ages ago and I could not care less.

If I learned anything from Star Trek: The Next Generation, it is that children are not responsible for the “Sins of the Father”, or in this case, the sins of the Grandfather and Great-Grandfather.
Unfortunately, the Orange D-Bag hasn’t learned this yet, and talks about torturing and killing the families of terrorist. This is such a crime against Humanity, the Orange D-Bag must never become president.

I’m a small “r” republican. I find monarchies abhorrent.

The parliament that voted to create the constitutional monarchy did so in a republican system of representation. They didn’t put it to a popular vote, they did it a the representatives of the country.
Christophersays
The last grand bargain between the Crown and the Parliament was the 1689 Bill of Rights which at the time was hardly representative. The most recent minor tweak was to the succession law (introducing absolute primogeniture) a couple years ago by an arguably more representative parliament.

The European ones are harmless, and very limited by their constitutions.

The issue is with the monarchy, regardless of the identity of the monarch. Hence republicanism. Small “r”
