I’m always surprised by the number of fundraising appeals I get. It’s not unusual at all to get fundraising appeals from Senate candidates who aren’t even running in the current cycle. It’s always struck me as useful to know what races are close because those are the ones where contributions can make the most difference. I’m getting a lot of appeals from Feingold who has been running at least nine points ahead of the incumbent, Republican Johnson. Feingold looks well-positioned to retake his seat.
There are three Democrats who could use your help more.
Close and close to us is the race in New Hampshire. The Democrat, Hassan, has been polling within a few points of the incumbent Republican Ayotte for a while. Donations to Hassan’s campaign could help here. Huffington currently reports 43.9 – 42.6 Ayotte; Real Clear Politics shows them at 46.8 – 45.3.
Ohio’s Senator Rob Portman also looks vulnerable this year. He’s just slightly ahead of Governor Strickland. Some polling even shows him ahead.
North Carolina has in Senator Burr a Republican more conservative than his electorate. Huffington shows him at 40.2%, very vulnerable for an incumbent. The Democrat, Ross, at 36.5% is not far behind.
There are races in Pennsylvania, Florida, and Nevada that could use some donations, as well.
