Joke? What Joke? Says Thomas a’Becket
“What this country needs is a few first class funerals.”
And two weeks later, someone bombed an Alabama church, killing four girls and injured more than 20 other people.
More violence against African American citizens followed immediately after the bombing.
I drew this history from the first few pages of March, Vol. 3, by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell.
I wasn’t aware of that quote, but without the explanation I would have taken first class funerals to refer to funerals for the rich and famous, as opposed to the rest of us who would get ordinary funerals.
