I’ve concluded that Mr. Timilty, beyond not reflecting the values of my wife and I, has used grossly misleading and dishonest tactics in his campaign for the state senate. His large format mailer, for example, on one side accuses Ms. Harrington of “spending summer weekends on the cape” (instead of in the district) when the reality is, without making much of an effort to fact check, I’ve seen pics of her campaigning in Milton over Labor Day weekend, and personally met her on a summer weekend day in Easton. Lie #1.
The flip-side of the same mailer, strangely enough, has two columns, one entitled lies (presumably by Ms. Harrington) and one entitled the truth (Mr. Timilty). The language of the “lies” is such is to make the reader very off-putting towards Ms. Harrington.
The problem is, after checking her web site, and mailings/targeted ads we’ve received, there’s nothing in the record to suggest that Ms. Harrington has taken the positions (accusing Timilty of being “anti-family” I believe was one, AIRC) she is accused of “lying” about.
The old “straw man” argument. When exposed to the bright light of facts, this blatantly DISHONEST tactic, no matter how one may try to nuance it, continues to do a disservice to the Timilty campaign, win or lose. Think the ends justify the means?
Think again.
With best wishes,
Mark
PS, we have also observed, in the finest *republican* fashion, the ongoing use of at least one phony facebook profile on behalf of the Timilty Campaign, attacking and attempting to discredit comments posted on behalf of his opponent. No class.
