I’m tired of the super achievers, the cream of the crop, what Christopher Hayes describes in Twilight of the Elites.. I’d like to see a regular Jane or Joe, the sort of person I do not have to explain how awful the Mass Health Connector is because they’ve had to battle it personally in the past. I’d like someone whose neighbors were laid off in 2008 and never regained what they lost; someone who gets it, understands it and acknowledges that our state, despite being in the control of Democrats for as far back as we can recall, remains a state raking close to the widest wealth disparity in the country.

I want someone spectacular, who will build the party. It’s up to primary voters to get the Democrats we want elected. It’s up to the Party Chair to ensure that phone calls from activists get returned, that voter files are updated, that statewide campaigns are run competently. You know, the stuff John Walsh and Phil Johnston knew how to do.

And my comments were not directed at either. Yes, we need someone who has charisma and Walsh is filled with that. We need someone who will build the party along all demographics, not just the standard ones we “reach out” to today.

…from Commonwealth Magazine. I would update the article slightly by saying that I received an email today from Lisa Wong indicating that she will not be a candidate. Also in reference to the proposal to move the election date, I believe that date, or at least window, is statutory and not just from internal governing documents.

Even if the date weren’t statutory, wouldn’t we have to meet anyway to approve a change to it?
Sheriff Tompkins also sent out an email saying that he will make a decision this weekend.
I’m a little disturbed by the idea that there should be some kind of race to the bottom for the chair’s salary. I don’t think this really should be a part-time or volunteer job. Let’s not forget that Mitt Romney took no salary as governor and we got what we paid for. Additionally, we shouldn’t limit the people who should chair the party only to those who can afford not to get paid.

…and I don’t know if you have been aware of the challenges a few of us have faced getting certain other bylaw amendments to come to the full DSC for a vote. There is a concern that certain people, possibly including Sen. McGee, are not in favor and therefore haven’t allowed a vote despite going through the procedures to do so – a page it seems right out of the playbook of our esteemed Great and General Court.

Great leader, takes no crap.

To be eligible for Chair one must first be a member of the DSC.
