On Facebook today: A photo of the World Trade Center with the following post-
“Someone remarked that this photo may offend a certain “group” of people in this country and around the world. I really don’t care if it does! Your welcome to share it.”
I commented: “Exactly zero people are offended by this photo,” because clearly this is one of those bizarre expressions of the conservative ‘id’ based on paranoia about imagined liberal beliefs. The topic switched to a liberal noting that is sad that the WTC used to be loosely associated with the Statue of Liberty as symbols of American welcoming of immigrants.
Someone responded: “We welcome LEGAL immigrants. It’s funny how some people think that they are above the law.”
My response:
“You mean people who tailgate and speed on the highway (like 70% of drivers?)? Or drink before age 21 or facilitate that? Or have sex with the girl they are in love with when they are 18 and she is 17? Or turn away renters who are black? Those people who exploit illegal immigrants on their construction sites and casinos? Yes, those people who think they are above the law are terrible.”
