In line at 7:59, back out the door 15 minutes later. Voter #193 for the precinct (but 5-1 was the bulk of the line).
Here we go.

Quick in and out, short line (half dozen?). Much less crowded than for the 2012 election. I was voter #491.
I voted as follows:
– Hillary Clinton/Tim Kaine
– Mike Capuano
– Pat Jehlen
– Denise Provost
Q1: No — I oppose any expansion of gambling in the state
Q2: No — I support public education and oppose any expansion of charter schools
Q3: No — I am unwilling to demand that our poorest residents to pay the price for the sensitivities of animal rights activists. If the proponents had made even a token effort to mitigate the impact on food costs, I would have supported this.
Q4: Yes — Perhaps our legislature will now do their jobs and embrace reasonable marijuana regulations that reflect the will of the people.
Q5 (Somerville only): Yes — Somerville desperately needs a new high school and this is far and away the best way to fund it.

Voter 104 at 735 this am. That is pretty heavy for this small precinct. Short line barely out the door of our tiny polling place. Moving quickly.

30% of our voters voted early. I was at the polls at 6:00 (we open early in Franklin) and the turnout is brisk. I saw 30 or 40 individuals holding signs for Democrats. There was one lone women holding a Trump sign.

I moved to VT over the summer. We have a very competitive governor’s race here between a really fantastic former Secretary of Transportation, Sue Minter (who happens to be Amy Goodman’s sister-in-law), and a very decent Lt. Gov, Phil Scott. The race is 50-50 and no one knows how it will turn out. There is a third party candidate with ties to MA that I wanted to mention here. When I cast my ballot this morning I laughed out loud seeing how his name actually appeared on the ballot. Former Red Sox pitcher Bill Lee is running as a Liberty Union Party candidate. It’s a quirky socialist party. He’s officially running as:
Bill “Spaceman” Lee
Only in Vermont.

Ayotte wins.
Feingold and Evan Bayh lose.
Bottom line, we don’t get it. But we gain seats.

I think Hassan’s ad with her grandson is bad. It’s not the ad itself, it’s the timing. It looks like she’s exploiting him.
Ayotte’s ads by contrast are more feel-goody, though she doesn’t act in them very well.
Feingold, I don’t know … I just have a feeling. Bayh’s lead has been dwindling for a month.

it was gut wrenching to watch them bring in their kids or grandchildren, the only thing that ran through my mind was horrible parenting. Subjecting your own children to this is awful. —That was the only thing going through n=my mind watching the ads, don’t recall the words or anything else about them.

I don’t know how much Jeanne Shaheen has been involved , but she’s got the best Democratic turnout machine east of Nevada. I think that wins it for Hassan.
Charlie Baker faced the camera and lied about Question 2, in an ad that was broadcast a gazillion times. Let’s hope that brings his approval rating down to where it should be.

Spoke to a people in phone banking who said “I was for Question 2 until I saw Charlie Baker supporting it”. The people who like Charlie already supported #2; the undecided suburban women don’t trust him.

We voted on paper in 6-1, and I learned that the processing machine can identify and refuse to accept a “spoiled” ballot. A couple of people had spoiled ballots due to filling in too many circles or overfilling circles or something. They had to complete new ballots. It took about 35 minutes to vote shortly after 7 this morning — most of the recent contests have taken just the time to get the ballot and complete it.
