There are a lot of hysterical people out there today, jumping up and down, waving their arms and whining about fascism.
The Cassandras talk like the election of Donald Trump to the presidency is the end of democracy, the end of constitutional rights, the end of separation of powers, the end of freedom, and, just maybe, the end of the world as we Americans know it. Luckily, progressives and principled conservatives are much, much more sophisticated than that. They understand that there is no sense fanning Trump hysteria.
And since the Trump team has made it clear that they plan to use his electoral college victory to avoid discussing details like the Russian interference in our election, the stacking of the White House with racists, the clear plan to use his control of all three branches of government to smash civil rights, and his obvious intent to use the presidency to accept laundered payments for his private benefit through state-controlled entities from Trump-friendly dictatorships, there’s a perfectly comfortable solution for Trump opponents: more blog posts and more sophisticate self-congratulation.
That’s right. Let’s keep showing off our intellectual prowess with more outraged blog posts. So, fear not! We have ample time to develop an absolutely perfect response to all of this. Keep catharting over and over again with more posts.
Folks. There is a reason that Trump supporters are laughing at us.
In all truth my friends, when a President-elect has this level of contempt for the courts, the Congress, the Constitution, and now even the CIA – when he denies facts verified by 17 intelligence agencies when they do not meet his propagandistic approval about the most sacred ritual in our democracy, a Presidential Election:
The time for whining has ended.
IT IS TIME TO PLAN A GENERAL STRIKE TO SHOW THAT WE, NOT HE, WILL DECIDE WHERE THIS GOES.
When the strike should occur is a matter for discussion, but if we do not show that we can bring the economy to a standstill, any demonstration will be ignored by Trump. Like any bully, Trump will only understand a display of power.
