Senate Democrats will caucus this morning and call for an Independent Commission with subpoena power to investigate Russian interference in our election.
Minority Whip, Sen. Dick Durbin, suggested the non-partisan investigation should be chaired by respected national leaders like General Colin Powell and former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. He called the Republican proposal to give the job to their Intelligence Committees: ‘ a graveyard for investigations because their work is done in SECRET, without subpoena power, where censored and redacted information needs White House approval. Only a PUBLIC independent investigation with subpoena power can get Trump’s tax records to see if there was a quid pro quo explaining his soft position on Russia.’
