I haven’t been able to find a video of the entire town hall, but go here to see 5 amazing clips. Can’t watch all the way through without crying. It’s just heartbreaking. Also tears of joy for how much Bernie cares. He is the REAL DEAL, peeps!
That was supposed to be a heart after “Bernie is a class act!” – should have looked like <3.
Trump supporters still support him, despite the flip flops and outright lies, ties to the Russian Mafia, numerous golf outings, and so much more…..and the Clinton supporters still support her, brag about the popular vote, and blame misogyny, bigotry, and racism for her defeat.
Not much has changed on either side.
People are tired and angry and want a government on their side. And they want a whole lot more from it. It’s still the economy, stupid. Sad how it takes a Vermont socialist to make the Big Dogs old argument relevant again.
We want Our government on Our side.
If he is a Model Democrat, why isn’t he a member of the Democratic party?
Why is that “sad”?
Is there something inferior about Vermont Socialists?
Maybe there’s a quote out there someplace, Manny, but I haven’t found it yet. I’ll stand corrected if you can provide me the quote. If you can’t, I may suspect that Aunt Debbie is made of straw.
n/t
It generally wasn’t phrased as “Bernie can’t win white males.” It was “Bernie can’t win the kinds of people who would ever vote for Trump (and if he can, that just shows you how terrible he is, we don’t need a nominee who those racists might vote for, and we certainly shouldn’t consider the merits of reaching out to them, we don’t want them in our coalition).” I don’t know that any particular Aunt Debbie said it, but I do know it was said. Often. On twitter, in threads at Democratic sites, at Shakesville, in lots of places.
I realize you’re asking for receipts here, and that’s fair, but I’m not sure anyone has the time, patience, or strength of character to go diving into bitter, long comment threads from a year or nine months ago to find them. I know I’d rather not, because the vitriol was memorable, and we’ve got sufficient issues with unity, or even solid alliance, as it is. But if you’re looking, you’ll have better luck if you check for comments about whether he could win Trump voters than if you’re looking for comments about whether he could win white males.
(Hell, on one level there wasn’t even controversy about that. In some quarters, the line was that he could only win white males: the dreaded BernieBros.)
Was I wrong? I don’t doubt that if one of us took on the dismal task of looking through old comment threads almost any wrong opinion could be found. However, it hardly seems worth refuting some deservedly forgotten commenter.
Manny is mistaken if he thinks he is refuting the old leadership of the DNC. Sanders was criticized, mostly unfairly, for a lot of things. but a perceived inability to connect with white, male working class voters was not one of them.
Crissakes the freakin election is over.
Yes, and we’re trying to figure how to win the next one. That is not a waste of time.
“Would have won…”
Tell me who’s going to win in 2020 (and 2018). Much more interested in that plz
I agree at 78 he and Biden, Hillary or Kerry are all done. Warren seems like the best choice to unite the Clinton and Sanders factions while leading the party in a more populist direction. But I also have my doubts about her general election chances and whether it’s something she’d actually want to do.
I’ve always liked Al Franken, he ran an unabashedly progressive campaign in 2014 and won swing voters with a direct economic message. Justin Trudeau knows how to do this too-but we can’t steal him. Both of those ads are far more resonant than anything we put out in 2016. Sherrod Brown knows how to play on Trumps turf and win as well.
We are short of 40-something governors et al with charisma and a marketable record. O’Malley could use some spit-shine — this stuff can be learned.
Buttigieg 2028
…and by that standard EW is up there too. Just ask Ronald Reagan!:)
is that the original post was some crap from twitter
if it actually included some text.
