One Democrat’s exchange on Supreme Court confirmation history:
Dem:
“Joe Biden’s words were just words. What happened to Merrick Garland in 2016 had several added variables: time, mendacity, and disregard of the constitutional obligation to advise anc consent to a President’s nomination. The level of hypocrisy on the part of the Dems was actually if you’d bother to check and honestly compare. I hope no false equivalency was intended.”
Right-winger:
“”Precedent: An earlier event or action that is regarded as an example or guide to be considered in subsequent similar circumstances. (Oxford dictionary on line version).”………… Or like this repeated version by Schumer…http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/schumer-in-2007-dont-confirm-any-bush-supreme-court-nominee/article/2583283
Dem:
“1. Did you miss this part?: SCHUMER CITED IDEOLOGICAL REASONS FOR THE [POTENTIAL] DELAY (caps added):
“They must prove by actions, not words, that they are in the mainstream rather than we have to prove that they are not,” Schumer said at the time.
2. He never said not to give a Bush nominee a HEARING. He simply recommend Dems vote no on a candidate who was not “mainstream”.
3. Finally, isn’t it convenient that the Washington Examiner, and Richard Gindes, left out the DATE of Schumer’s address in 2007? Let me assist you Mr. Gindes.
Drumroll: It was not nearly 300 days prior to the end of Bush’s term after an actual NOMINATIION by Bush of a mainstream candidate like Garland. It was just over 150 days and in the abstract, on July 27, 2007. Surprised dear reader?
Just keep creating ‘alternative facts’. It’s what the right does best.”
