In riveting open testimony before the House Intelligence Committee today, former CIA Director John Brennan made a compelling case for why he believes Russia still poses a serious threat to American security and our democratic way of life.
He accused Russia of : ‘ brazenly interfering in our 2016 election saying they clearly had a preference for Trump over Clinton.’ CIA intelligence showed Russia used Americans ‘ both wittingly and unwittingly ‘ to advance their national interests at our expense by undermining our democracy ; and they will continue to corrupt our institutions through cyber attacks, propaganda, election tampering, blackmail, money laundering and other nefarious acts of deceit and treachery.
The CIA turned this intel over to the FBI for criminal investigation but Trump recently fired its Director James Comey in a feeble attempt to shut it down. Trump then had the audacity to brag about the firing to the Russians in the Oval Office of all places. Now that’s chutzpah !
Special Counsel Robert Mueller picks up the investigation and prosecution of criminal wrongdoing armed with subpoena power and ongoing grand jury testimony.
But beyond the intelligence, investigations and prosecutions it will fall on the House of Representatives to take up impeachment of Trump to remove him from office if they believe he obstructed justice or abused his power by violating his Oath of Office to ‘ preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.’
