Today’s the day that the Senate will apparently vote on “skinny repeal”, ie. the repeal of the individual mandate, the employer mandate, and the medical device tax. This will lead to 16 million more people losing health care, and 20% higher premiums for those on the individual market. Ghastly.
If you have friends in OH, NV, ME, AK, LA, AZ — really anywhere where there’s a GOP Senator — have them call their Senator and tell them to oppose the monstrosity — “skinny” or not. Senate switchboard is 202-224-3121. There are some tools available:
You can use Indivisible’s Hubdialer to call people in NV and WV; if your call-ee agrees, you patch them through to a direct call to Sen. Heller or Capitol’s office. I did it last night; works OK. If you’ve done online phone-banking before, it’s a pretty similar experience in all ways.
Use Facebook. Find your friends in those states and give them a nudge.
You can also have your friends use Resistbot — text RESIST to 50409, and the bot will give you instructions on automatically sending a fax (huh) to the appropriate office. Takes just a few minutes. I tried it for our Senators.
This is Part One of reclaiming our legislatures from insanity. It’s actually working — they haven’t passed anything yet. Step Two is an electoral onslaught the likes of which we’ve never seen before.

Just walked me sister in law through the process which is anxiety inducing for her, but she felt at ease when I made her a script. Apparently Portman’s line is going straight to voicemail indicating he’s been flooded with calls.

How do we get here? I’m not disputing this, just asking.
