I was wrong about John McCain, and rarely have I been so happy to be wrong.
Now, when the Republicans control all branches of government, but they still cannot get anything done, it may be time to admit that the American people will be harmed less – at least in terms of public policy – if Donald Trump is not impeached.
This presupposes three things.
One, this presupposes most importantly that our two houses of Congress miraculously manage to pass an effective program to protect the polls in 2018 against foreign interference.
Two, this presupposes that Donald Trump is not so unhinged that he uses the tremendous power of the presidency to create wars so destructive that it is a complete disaster.
Three, this presupposes that the deep cultural damage, and damage to public ethics, that Trump is doing to our society is not so profound that we cannot recover from it.
Otherwise, though, it is becoming hard to see how we will be better off with the political skills of a President Pence or a President Ryan in play. Don’t tell the Republicans.

I strongly disagree. Trump should be impeached if for no other reason than to honor the rule of law and the integrity of the Constitution ; ” The President … shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

We need to somehow remove the entire administration of Donald Trump.
Like removing a cancer, ALL the malignant tissue must be removed. This specifically includes everyone implicated in the Russia scandal, and everyone implicated by the widespread financial corruption.
My prediction is that we will learn, from the Russia investigation, that Donald Trump is a stooge/patsy of organized crime. We will learn that the entire Donald Trump empire is deeply enmeshed with US and Russian organized crime, and that Vladimir Putin is just one of several mob bosses calling the shots.
Follow the money.

There’s strong circumstantial evidence that he and Kushner are severely compromised by Russian and other debt. Everything is suspicious — particularly since we don’t have the tax returns. Even then that wouldn’t account for offshore havens, etc. It’ll come out eventually …

Oh, I’ve no doubt that Trump is deeply in the Russians’ debt, and Congress knows it full well. That’s why they’re tying his hands with regard to the sanctions President Obama put in place in January.
necturus says
This is not the administration of Donald Trump; it’s the administration of the Republican Party. Donald Trump is merely the person the Republicans chose to preside over it.
We can’t remove the administration before 2020. Congress could replace Donald Trump with Mike Pence, but that could only happen if (1) House Republicans decided it would be to their advantage to replace Trump with Pence; and (2) enough Senate Democrats vote with Republicans to convict Trump. In that scenario, all of Trump’s toxic appointees remain in place, but under a competent President instead of an inept one.
The damage done last November 8 can’t be undone by any impeachment. Gorsuch will remain on the Supreme Court, and Pence’s potential future appointees will be no less toxic than Trump’s. There’s no real antidote but the next elections, unfortunately.
