Mike Pence cannot be made to resign, because he has been elected by the people. There can be only one explanation for why Mike Pence, who as vice president does NOT serve at the pleasure of the president*, is still making fawning comments about this president*.
Very soon Mike Pence is going to be the President of the United States.
Politically, it is the only feasible explanation for why he continues to approach the appalling statements of Trump about nazis like he is Saddam’s information minister.
He is preparing to try to hold the country together by holding the Trump voters close for the upcoming transition. He knows that the Trump voters will never accept anyone other than Trump, unless he is seen as being Trump’s right hand.
After all four Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs and Senator Corker have abandoned Trump publicly, it is the explanation that makes the most sense politically: Mike Pence is not calculating what it would be like to run for president in 2020. Mike Pence is calculating what it will be like to be president in a few weeks or months.

Why not just cut them loose? I generally believe that all eligible persons should vote, but people like this both parties should present a unified message that their votes are not wanted.
