Are you a supporter of Bernie Sanders? Are you a member of Our Revolution Mass (ORMA)? If so, have you volunteered for Paul Feeney, the Democratic nominee for State Senate for the Bristol and Norfolk district? Because he needs your help to get elected as State Senator.
I know that many ORMA members (and many other progressive groups) from across Massachusetts have been volunteering for Paul, who was the state director for the Bernie Sanders campaign in 2016. For those who haven’t followed the race, Paul is in a tough battle against a right-wing Republican, and an independent with high name recognition. It’s critical for Paul to get elected to the State Senate. He will be a strong pro-labor voice for working families, a supporter of single-payer healthcare, and will fight for a $15/hour minimum wage and paid family medical leave, clean energy, and an improved public transportation system.
The next 7 days will determine if people in the Bristol and Norfolk district who share the same values as Paul will get out and vote, so that we add another progressive voice to the Senate. So I am urging you to take a day off this week, head down to the district for the weekend, or spend Election Day (Tues, Oct. 17th) in the Mansfield area, and help turn out the vote. I will be doing GOTV for him this weekend. This race is very close. We need him in the State Senate.

Since he is already the Dem nominee, why are you calling on the Sanders wing specifically? All of us should want him to be elected.

Since there’s a good chance the Joe Shortsleeve could pull off the upset. Well known local anchor and independent candidate who is well connected to Beacon Hill. He’s also saying he’s a Bernie/Trump voter which may make the emphasis on the Bernie supporters to leave Cambridge/Somerville and come down to campaign in the Southeast part of the state that much more salient. Not to mention a lot of Bernie supporters aren’t affiliated with the Democrats but are affiliated with OR.
Our Revolution is doing exactly what all the other center-left pressure groups have failed to do. Think locally and act locally and get a local bench. This will build up the party.

Am I the only one for whom the only context in which being a Bernie-Trump voter makes the least bit of sense is blind hatred for Hillary?
AmberPaw says
First, Christopher, because the candidate worked with the Sanders Campaign and so those former Sanders volunteers likely already know him and are therefore, more likely to put foot to pavement. Second, your second post is negative in a way that is unhelpful. Third, nice to see Eldridge making clear that THIS is a way to actually make a difference. Not sure I can rearrange my schedule and I am at times rather short of both time and energy [long story that some know]. Besides, for the Sanders supporters from that almost crusade like moment in time, there may be the warmth of reunion to energize them.

Any news about Paul Feeney’s results ?
Christopher says
He won, but I don’t know specifics.

SCORE ! Congratulations, Paul. Another Democratic win for the good guys against the extremist Republican right-wing.

And in the primary win, good for a true progressive Democrat who stands with the working class!

This should be a bigger deal. But Shortsleeve is exactly the kind of Beacon Hill Democrat we routinely elect around here, and the fact that he was forced to run as an independent shows that progressive can win primaries. Not just in Cambridge/Somerville like the Toomey race, but in parts of the state that aren’t as progressive. And this actually helps the party become more competitive in less hospitable turf.
Populist progressives can win elections anywhere in this state, and these are exactly the candidates we should be running.
