Tammy Baldwin and Elizabeth Warren
Sherrod Brown and Elizabeth Warren
There has been legitimate criticism here recently about the DNC and why we should avoid making contributions to it.
I just received a fund-raising email from Elizabeth Warren highlighting two key Senate battles where good progressive Democrats urgently need our help: Tammy Baldwin in WI and Sherrod Brown in Ohio.
Since I think we can all agree that Ms. Warren is still a legitimate voice for our progressive agenda, I encourage each of you to consider her eloquent appeal. These are two key races where each individual contribution can make a huge difference. Each is an excellent alternative for contributions that might otherwise go to the DNC. Here is her letter:
Last night, Vice President Mike Pence came to the Senate and cast a tie-breaking vote for the Senate Republicans to give a giant wet kiss to Wall Street.
If we had won just one more Senate race in 2016, that wouldn’t have happened. On the big fights like health care and Wall Street reform, Democrats can’t afford to lose a single vote in the Senate in 2018.
That’s why I spent last weekend in Ohio and Wisconsin, where I was campaigning with two of our toughest progressive fighters in the Senate: Sherrod Brown and Tammy Baldwin.
The people I met in Cleveland, Madison and Milwaukee were pumped to get to work for Sherrod and Tammy. Their energy and excitement could light a football stadium. But the people I met were also deeply worried. They haven’t forgotten the millions of dollars that came flooding in from right-wing Super PACs to beat Russ Feingold and Ted Strickland last year.
Ohio and Wisconsin will be two of our toughest Senate races in 2018. And if we’re going to make sure Sherrod Brown and Tammy Baldwin get reelected next year, they need real grassroots support NOW.
Will you chip in $5 — or whatever you can — to support Sherrod Brown and Tammy Baldwin? Every dollar makes a difference.

The Koch Brothers and their shady network of outside groups are pouring millions of dollars into Wisconsin in hopes of another upset — just like the one they had last year against my friend Russ Feingold.
The same is true for Sherrod Brown. As the top Democrat on the Banking Committee, Sherrod has worked tirelessly to hold the big banks accountable and level the playing field for working class families. Outside groups spent $40 million trying to get rid of Sherrod in 2012. He beat them the last time around, if we stand together, he’ll beat them again.
I know Sherrod and Tammy — and they don’t back down from a fight. They’re two of the country’s strongest fighters for working families. But with buckets of right-wing dark money already pouring into their races, they’re going to need our help. That’s why I went to Wisconsin and Ohio – and that’s why I’m emailing you today.
Please chip in $5 — or whatever you can — to help Sherrod Brown and Tammy Baldwin fight back against the right-wing megadonors trying to buy these Senate seats. Every dollar is important.

Sherrod Brown is the man!
I like Sherrod Brown a lot. I don’t know as much about Tammy Baldwin.
Same here. I think the link provides a way to give to just Mr. Brown. I’m sure that Mr. Brown’s office will provide any needed information even if ActBlue does not.
I also feel that I know Ms. Warren better than the DNC or anybody in the DNC, and take her recommendations seriously. I think that Ms. Warren is fighting the good fight, and I think it’s a fight we must win.
Since the DNC — along with the DSCC (Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee) and the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) — is at least one step removed from actual legislators, there is always a risk (some, including yours truly, say a near certainty) that it will direct contributions to a legislator who later proves to be, um, problematic.
I think its crucial that we provide financial support to legislators and candidates who support our values. I think that is especially true for those of us who are outspokenly hostile to today’s Democratic Party, its candidates, and its legislators. Our contributions speak much more loudly than anything we write here, no matter how voluminous or persuasive we are.
One participant constantly reminds us that I said, years ago, “the money has to come from somewhere”. The plain truth is, it DOES. If we want to reduce the influence of “wall street” or “big donors” or “the 0.1 percent” or whomever, then EACH of us MUST give SOMETHING to SOME candidate we choose.
If we stop giving to the party, and we use our access to sites like this to attack the party, and we simultaneously fail to contribute to anybody, then we do the work of Donald Trump and the GOP deplorables. It’s that simple.
I suggest that each of us must find somebody we like and make a small contribution.
While it would be nice if the DNC weren’t lagging so far behind the RNC in its fundraising haul, if I had to choose between candidates rolling in dough and the national committee I’ll take the candidates.
